Modern engineering processes expect high quality and consistent performance. Naturally, the accuracy of the machining process required is very high and is difficult to achieve. Honing is one such highly accurate finishing operation.
Honing denotes to a process of scrubbing abrasively up against the subject metal workpiece with stone across a controlled path. The complete process helps give the formation a precision interior surface, particularly of a bore or a cylinder.
The dimensional and geometrical accuracy needs of workpieces vary, different types of honing machines with various types of tools are used. Generally there are only two main types of honing machines:Vertical Honing Machines, Horizontal Honing Machines.
Single pass honing is used to hone a straight and un-tapered bore. The honing stone or tool is passed only once through the bore for forming a cylindrical shape or barrel. This type of honing process is useful for the internal long stroke honing.
